SitusAMC Power Pro: Christina Ison

Name: Christina Ison

Title: Assistant Vice President, Servicing Quality Control

Office: Southfield, Michigan; remote.

Day-to-Day: I oversee SitusAMC’s audit setup group, part of the servicing quality control team. We process data files from mortgage servicers, then pass them off to our audit team for review. We also monitor report writing and ensure that final reports are delivered to clients in a timely manner.

My Leadership Philosophy: As a leader, I want my team to know just as much as I do so that they feel empowered to bring their best to work every day. I learned this early in my career, when I had an opportunity to move to Chicago for an operations role. It would have been a great step forward, but I ended up missing out on the promotion because there was no one to backfill my role. It was tough to accept that even though I was a perfect fit, I lost out because no one else could do my job. I’ll never let that happen again.

Boosting Team Morale: I manage a team of three. We’re constantly in touch for work, but I believe that building camaraderie outside of the office is also really important. We all work remotely, so once a month, I try to schedule a team-building activity to bring us all closer together. We’re a lively group, so our games always get a little competitive.

Advice I’d Give My Younger Self: I wish I’d know the value of relationship-building sooner in my professional journey. I think I would have gotten further much sooner. I spent a large part of my twenties working really hard, thinking that was the path to recognition and promotions. If I could go back and do things all over again, I’d spend more time networking. After all, you never know which connections might help you land your next big opportunity.

Currently Learning: Spanish. I studied it for five years in school, but I’m trying to get more fluent. I volunteer for my son’s soccer organization in my free time and most of the parents speak the language, so brushing up has helped make it a bit easier to communicate with everyone.

Dream Travel Destination: Spain is on my bucket list for sure. In middle school, I had an amazing English Language Arts teacher who spent a lot of time focusing on European countries. I just fell in love with the way she spoke about Spain. Since then, I’ve always wanted to go and explore the architecture, the museums and the amazing food.
