SitusAMC Power Pro: Dee Solic

Name: Dee Solic
Title: Senior Business Analyst
Office: St. Petersburg, Florida; remote

Day to Day: I work in information technology supporting Centricity, a system that streamlines the loan trading process. I create the documentation that developers use to create products and outputs. I also complete quality assurance (QA) testing, write release notes and handle other necessary tasks associated with product launches and updates.

Landing the Role: My path was a winding one, for sure. I started as a temp on the operational side at a firm that was acquired by SitusAMC. Over the course of a few years, I rose through the ranks and, at one point, I had a few teams reporting up to me. Eventually, I realized that I wanted to leverage my analytical skills and move into the information technology space. When an opportunity to work on Centricity came up, I jumped at the chance to join the team.

Keys to Success: In this role, attention to detail is extremely important, especially when doing things like QA testing. You also have to be able to think outside the box to come up with solutions that aren’t immediately obvious. I work with a large team, so clear communication is essential to keeping everyone on track when we’re working on a complex project.

Keeping It All Together: I’m a really organized person outside of work. My friends always call me when they need help getting their things in order–especially their closets. I try to help them understand how to sort items in a way that suits their lifestyle and habits. So, kind of like at work, I’m helping them create systems and processes to make sure that they know where everything goes and how to keep things tidy.

Home Is: I moved to St. Petersburg six years ago. Before that, I lived in Pennsylvania. Adjusting to the change in location was challenging at first, but I’ve come to really enjoy living here. Florida’s not as mountainous or emerald green as my hometown, but it has its own unique beauty. The beaches are great and the ecosystem here is so versatile and diverse. I can grow almost anything I want in my backyard!

Recommended Reading: "Dirty Wars: The World Is a Battlefield" by Jeremy Scahill. It’s an eye-opening, nonfiction book that really draws you in. I’d also suggest "Capital in the Twenty-First Century" by Thomas Piketty.

Personal Motto: If you’re going to do it, do it now. It’s really easy to tell myself I’ll get to something later, but often life gets in the way and I never end up doing something that was important to me. I find that when I stop thinking about the “what-ifs” or “maybe laters,” I am able to make the most of each precious and limited moment. Sometimes doubt can be one’s own worst enemy, so it’s best to just jump in before it can catch up with you.

Dream Vacation Spot: Mongolia. The terrain there is so beautiful and the country’s history is fascinating, from nearly ruling the entire Eurasian continent to now being a peaceful country sandwiched between two superpowers. It’s a very large country, about the size of Alaska, with a very small population that's around the size of Tampa Bay. Visiting would be quite the undertaking, but I’m up for it.
